Alert status: Severe
1 August 2006
CURRENT THREAT LEVEL: SEVERE
This means that an attack is "highly likely" and indicates a continuing high level of threat to the UK.
The Home Office has decided to make the current UK terror threat level public. Today saw the launch of a brand new web site and a simplified threat level system with only five threat levels: critical, severe, substantial, moderate, and low.
The new system is simple to understand and designed to offer added protection to the public by helping police and other law enforcement agencies keep up with national security threats that might impact them.
